Day 4 - 30/6/12

Weight: 67.8kg
Mood: 8 out of 10
Energy: 8
Complexion: 7 out of 10
Food Log:
- apple
- kiwi
- dried fruit
- a handful of peanuts
- cheese, ham and mushroom 2 egg omelet
- side salad (no dressing, mixed salad, tomato, pepper and cucumber)
- 1 cup of sweet corn
- a glass of milk
- a mini creme brulee
- 3 chocolate covered strawberries
- 2 garlic king prawns
- Lift

On the food front today I've been totally satisfied. I haven't once wished I could have eaten something else, which is definitely a good sign.I've also feel like I've eaten plenty today... the last few days after logging what i've eaten, i've realized it hasn't been that much sometimes. I woke up this morning at bang on 10am, which was surprising considering I didn't fall asleep until 4.30am and the best thing is, is that I was ready to get up and start my day and I haven't felt tired or sleepy at all today. Fresh would be a good way of describing how I am feeling right.

I've been a little gasy tonight but I think that might be due to the eggs and cheese for Dinner and I don't normally tend to eat that many eggs. My weight has also dropped a massive amount in 4 days... 2 whole Kilograms. When you start a new diet or eating regime I guess you loose that first bit of weight very quickly and then it levels off, so we'll see how that goes. I've also realized I'm not bloated at all, which I love. I hate having a bloated belly, and its definitely fair to say my visits to the bathroom are becoming much more regular than before.

I just did a quick tot up of all the calories I had today (approximates) and it seems I had less than 1800 calories, which is a surprise considering I felt I ate plenty.

Day 3 -29/6/12

Weight: 68.4kg
Mood: 7 out of 10
Energy: 7
Complexion: 6 out of 10
Food Log:
- half a cup of sweet corn
- handful of dried fruit
- a small apple
- a kiwi
- Cadburys Dairy milk
- a handfuls of roast salted peanuts
- greek salad (lettuce, rocket, 2 tomatoes, cucumber, red pepper, 1/2 an avocado, red onion, sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, olive oil and balsamic vinegar)
- a slice of brie
- coke
- a Boost smoothie (mango)

I woke up this morning full of beans and raring to go, which makes a change. I wasn't hungry either, I've found dried fruit and nuts are a good way of filling myself. My skin is a little spotty right now... we'll see how that goes. As for my gas, I haven't had any, which is amazing... no complaints from Errol. I ate pretty much the same as yesterday today but a little more fruit, really enjoyed my dinner the day before... so I was pretty stoked to have it again. So far this gluten free thing is actually going pretty well and I haven't had to resort to any gluten free breads or pastas. Mostly I'm liking how I feel, not missing that full sluggish feeling.

Day 2 - 28/6/12

Weight: 69.8kg
Mood: 5 out of 10
Energy: 7
Complexion: 7 out of 10
Food Log:
- half a cup of sweet corn
- handful of dried fruit
- small glass of skimmed milk
- coke
- 2 garlic prawns
- a couple of handfuls of roast salted peanuts
- greek salad (lettuce, rocket, 2 tomatoes, cucumber, red pepper, 1/2 an avocado, red onion, sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, olive oil and balsamic vinegar)
- slice of cheddar cheese

This morning I woke up starving which isn't a great sign, although this did make it easier and more motivating to get out of bed earlier than usual. Today went grocery shopping and spend over $70 which is a huge amount for me, my fridge looks invitingly green and healthy. I've stocked up on eggs, rice, fish, cheese and a crazy amount of fruit and vegetables, particularly potatoes. I'm less daunted by the prospect of this diet now that I have a good amount of food in the fridge and I can see specific meals that I really enjoy. I've been in a pretty awesome mood today and have had enough energy, although now I'm ready for bed and my mood isn't what it was earlier... thats mainly due to the unfolding events at work. My skin is a little more spotty than yesterday but thats probably linked to the fact I am on my period.

Day 1 of a gluten free me has definitely been an eye opener. I literally had never realized how gluten was in everything. I planned to make myself egg friend rice for lunch only to check that Cole's own brand soy sauce also contains gluten. So I had to rethink, I'm beginning to realize this maybe the case quite often. I'm feeling pretty well today, although a little hungry and definitely a little sluggish. It'll take me a few days to find a food I can get into routine of eating that will make me full and replace my coco pops.

Why a gluten free diet?

The main reason I have decided to do this is because after reading a magazine article it basically led me to believe I may be Gluten Intolerant. What really stood out for me, was that it stated the red rash/pimples on my bottom that I've had since forever are often caused from a gluten intolerance. In the past I've been told they were a bacterial infection but after years of bacteria body wash things have never changed. So maybe it is gluten? We shall see.

A few other things finalised my decision to give this ago and quit gluten for a month to see if it really changed how I felt. I often feel lethargic and sluggish, embarrassingly I have to admit I often have a problem with flatulence and my main problem is that I seem to have a really weak immune system. I've always blamed this on the fact I had pretty server glandular fever when I was 18, so basically I'll give anything ago to try and improve my immune system.

So my plan is to log what I eat every day, log how I feel, log my weight and log the condition of my skin. I plan to log my weight in Kilograms and my mood, energy and skin condition on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the best and 1 being the worst. I will also give a general description too.

I plan to initially do this gluten free diet for 1 whole month, until August 1st. I want to see if I feel differently or if it makes no change at all. If it it seems to make a huge change to my health and just general well being I'm going to go have myself tested for gluten intolerance with the doctor. If it returns positive then I guess I'll continue with this and if it turns out negative I think I'll just dramatically reduce the amount of gluten I have in my diet.
